Texas Authors
Auction for America

Beginning October 11, 2001

Author Instructions

Dear Author,

Thanks for you willingness to participate in the Texas Author Auction for America drive. This information will tell you how you can participate.

Here's how the auctions work: An author who is willing to donate an autographed book (or set) begins an auction in eBay under Auction for America guidelines. eBay waives all normal fees for placing the auction. When the auction is finished, the winner pays for the book though Billpay (on-line credit card payment). The payment goes directly to the funds. The author does not handle any money. When the auction is over, the author sends the autographed book to the winner.

Beginning date for the Texas Author Auction is October 11, 2001 -- continuing through early December, 2001.

Note: You might check with your publisher -- they might be willing to donate one or more copies of your book toward this project.

Guidelines (3 ways to participate):

Option 1: You are willing to begin an auction on eBay yourself. (This is the recommended way to participate.)

STEP 1. Use the eBay guidelines for selling through Auction for American. (click here.)

STEP 2. To signify your participation in the Texas Author's Drive, create your auction title with the words "TXAUTHOR" (no blanks) at the beginning of your description.

For example, your auction title might be:

 TXAUTHOR Alan Elliott Internet Auctions

Note that you only have 45 characters for the title.

For consistency, please use this sample description as a guideline for your entry:

TXAUTHOR - Alan C. Elliott, Autographed copy of Getting Started in Internet Auctions.

Autographed book(s) will be mailed to you promptly once the auction is finished and payment has been made.

Opening bid:

Suggested opening bid: half the cover price of your book.

Our target date for beginning the auctions is October 11, 2001. However, you may begin you auction anytime after that and sell as many books as you wish.

STEP 3. Once your auction has finished, please send me an email letting me know how much was raised in your auction so we can keep a running total of the amount raised with this drive.

STEP 4. To be included in the list of participating authors, please send the following information to ace@alanelliott.com:

Your name (and city):

Your book title(s) being auctioned:

Your email address (if you want it included in your entry)

Your webpage address (if you want it included in your entry.)

OPTION 2: If you do not want to set up the auction on eBay yourself. Once you send us the information we need, we will put your auction up on eBay

Send the following information to ace@alanelliott.com:

1. Your name (and city):

2. Your book title(s) being auctioned: (note -- if you are including multiple books, please let me know if they are to be auctioned as a set or individually.)

3. A description of your book(s) (please keep it to under 100 words.)

4. A digitized picture of the cover of your book(s). (in gif or jpeg format.) Include the picture file as an attachment to your email.

5. What beginning bid you want to use (I suggest half the cover price.):

6 Your email address (if you want it included in your author entry on the Texas authors website)

7 Your webpage address (if you want it included in your entry on the Texas authors website.)

OPTION 3: If you don't want to do option 1 or 2, simply send me a copy of your autographed book (Alan Elliott, 812 Penn Place, Cedar Hill TX 75104) and I'll do everything else -- set up the auction and mail to copy to the winner. Send me an email at ace@alanelliott.com and I'll send you my mailing address.
